Welcome to the 9th Speyside Way Race
Part of the Scottish Ultra Marathon Series championships
The Speyside Way Race Ultra Marathon returned to the Scottish Ultra calendar in 2010. The original route finished at the coast village of Spey Bay, but the reincarniated event now continues on to the end of the Speyside Way in Buckie town centre, making it a 37 mile ultra event.
It is a self supported event, although you may have support meeting you along the way to top you up as you need. We will be taking drop bags for runners that we can have ready for you at Craigellachie (12 miles) and Fochabers (25 miles). Please, no support in at Boat O' Brig - it really is too narrow for vehicles coming in and interferes with the job the marshall has there trying to get runners safely across a very busy road.
Registration takes place in Buckie Community High School, which is near the finish. There is not a lot of parking available at Cragganmore Distillery or at the old Ballindalloch railway station, so it is recommended that you book the transport on the entry form which will take competitiors from the finish in Buckie to the start. This means if you are a lone runner, you don’t have to worry about getting back to your car, and we don’t have to worry about upsetting the residents around the start area. Please be aware that this is a residential area.
There will be marshals along certain points of the route to make sure nobody goes off route or has any problems, although the route is well waymarked. One small problem area is between Fochabers and Speybay where much of the route has given way to erosion and the rangers have had to create a very narrow diversion. Please watch out for the tape to get you on the right route at this point.
The race will start at Cragganmore Distillery in Ballindalloch at 9am. Bus will leave Buckie at 7.45am. There will be a nine hour time limit for this race, so you have until 6pm to finish. We have access to Buckie Community High School facilities for the whole day if you or your supporters need a wee rest.
